The Fast Show joining the world of social media!

Paul Whitehouse and Mark Williams

The Fast Show 2011 has been back since early November – only online, but it’s as funny as it ever was and has lived up to fans’ expectations.

Apparently the show’s creators Charlie Higson and Paul Whitehouse were only convinced that people were hungry for more of their favourite Fast Show characters because of the number of people searching for Fast Show clips on youtube.

The old characters have caught up to date with new technology and are weaving interest in Twitter, Facebook and smartphones into their conversations. They also continue to sprinkle their sketches with all the favourite catchphrases that won the nation’s hearts the first time round in the 1990s.

The Fast Show joining the world of Social Media

Of course, having the Fast Show online at Fosters’ UK site opens it up to a whole new generation of viewers who didn’t see it on TV.  Today’s younger viewers might take a few episodes to get to grips with what on earth is going on, but if they keep watching, they’ll be joining the rest of us Fast Show fans who are already awaiting announcements of a second series when this first online series reaches its end.

The appearance of brand new sketch show material on the web widens the appeal of funny videos

for those of us who have tired of watching animals doing the funniest things, laughing babies, and the like. This is true comedy and it’s the combination of the excellent scripts and talented actors which make it so funny.

The latest episode to view is Episode 6 – that includes an awkward as ever scene between classic characters Ted and Ralph, discussing online friendship; and pub bore Billy Bleach talking smartphones as he tries to impress a young blonde.

If you’ve not had the chance to see any of the new Fast Show yet, get on to Fosters’ UK site to catch up on all the episodes so far, and look out for Episode 7 which will be online from Thursday 30 December at 1pm.

Rowley Birkin

The best comedy series ever is back. Well, that’s my opinion anyway and I’m sticking to it!

The Fast show 2011 is being shown every Thursday at 1pm and is only available online, so do yourself a favour and watch.

Loads of our favourite characters are back. It’s particularly great to hear from Rowley Birkin QC again. As the great man himself once said:She was half woman, half fish. Terrible in the kitchen, but a bloody good swimmer.”

Now if you don’t know what I’m talking about, well … you should.

But just in case …. Rowley, a retired barrister, tells unintelligible, but terribly posh, stories at his fireside, occasionally breaking out into lucid speech for a phrase or word, like: “The whole thing was made completely out of matchsticks” or “Snake, Snake!”.

And for aficionados; the Birkin character was also seen as a working barrister in The Fast Show’s spin-off feature “Ted and Ralph”.

Virtually every one of Rowley’s tales tells ends with “I’m afraid I was very, very drunk” and the QC usually has a glass or cigarette in hand with a decanter of scotch or brandy by his side.

In the final episode of series 2, there was a surprisingly touching moment from Rowley as he recalled a lost love in a sorrowful voice: “I was in absolute floods of tears [mumbles..] it was very, very cold … I held her in my arms … I’m afraid I was very drunk” … a clock chimes plaintively as Rowley appears deeply moved and has a tear on his cheek.

Pure pathos! And Paul Whitehouse proves he could have been a great actor had he chosen that route.

Thankfully, he didn’t and he’s back with us as Rowley for The Fast Show 2011.
